a shocking crime in vallejo. a teenage boy is behind bars on suspicion of kidnapping a 65- year-old woman and holding her for ransom. >> reporter: details are still coming in. police officers describing this crime as horrific. a 14-year-old boy facing multiple charges that include assault, attempted murder, carjacking, kidnapping. let me show you where we are right now. this is hidden brook parkway. this is where the victim was found. a 65-year-old woman duct taped, unconscious, and left in a ditch in this area. here's what we have learned. police say that she had been kidnapped from gunpoint in front of a retail store on plaza drive which is just a few short miles away from here. they said that this woman was coming out of a store when she was approached, taken at gunpoint into her mini van and taken to this area where she was the victim of quote an agree juice physical and sexual assault. she was left in this area in the meantime the suspect apparently called a family member and asked for ransom. if you look around this area you can see it goes into a subdivision. we are off inter

arson investigators in vallejo. ken pritchett live in vallejo. >> reporter: there were three fires essentially overnight that the vallejo fire department resumed as suspicious. last night there was another suspicious fire. this is leave thing the fire department into investigating as to whether there is a link. when debra rodriguez walked us through the blackened basement of her home she said she felt anger and more. debra rents out this home but no one was living here last night. fire investigators determined it started down stairs. >> the fire appears to be incendiary. >> reporter: vallejo has had several arson fires in recent days. last thursday the village nightclub was set afire and gutted. >> hopefully they catch them soon. i don't want anybody being in a same position. out of a business or out of a home because of this gentleman who decided to excite himself with a fire. >> reporter: the bar was one of three properties involved in suspicious fires all within a 12 hour time span and always close to one another. last night's house fire was nearby. >> there's some similarities

police in vallejo accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 65- year-old woman. ktvu claudine wong is right along highway 80 in valy hoe. you have been on this 4:30. you said the victim was found beaten and wrapped in duct tape? >> reporter: that is right. we are on plaza drive just off interstate 80. we have moved over here because we want to show you where the alleged kidnapping happened. this is a retail shopping area. we don't know where exactly the victim was coming from. police say she was taken by gunpoint from the front of a store here. forced into a mini van and forced to drive three miles from here. i want to show you video of that location we shot an hour ago. that is where the 65-year-old victim was physically and sexually assaulted duct taped and left in a ditch. passer byes apparently saw the victim and called for help. while police were investigating, they say someone called a family member of the victim and demanded money in exchange for the victim's return. now we do not know how the police found the suspect, but we do know that the 14-year-old apparently came back

about a 65-year-old woman robbed at gunpoint from a popular shopping center in vallejo. now in custody for the crime is a 14-year-old boy police say is responsibility. christie smith is live at police headquarters with what we have just learned. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ma a marla. police call this an egregious and physical assault on a woman. the suspect is a 14-year-old boy from vallejo. he kidnapped the woman from the store on thursday evening. forced her into a car. the teen forced the woman to drive away where she was sexually assaulted and beaten and duct taped and left unconscious. police were developing leads into the case and the relative of the victim was called. i spoke with a shopper at the mall this morning and she tries to be careful, but isn't shocked by the things teens do. >> wherever you go, you need to be careful. be aware of what is going on around you. i'm over 65. i'm more careful. >> reporter: now last night, a passerby noticed the woman in distress by hiddenbrooke parkway. she had been dumped in the ditch and taken to the hospital. police

suspect is a 14-year-old. we are in vallejo where we have been following this developing story since 4:30. >> reporter: good morning. police are planning on holding a press conference later this morning where we expect to learn more details but here is what we know. this all started here, this is the plaza shopping center. it's a fairly big shopping center. the woman was coming out of one of the stores when police say she was kidnapped at gun point. according to police she was forced in to her own car and forced to drive this area. she was then the victim of a physical and sexual assault. the victim was left unconscious and duct taped in a ditch and the suspect fled in her car. passerbies noticed the victim. called police and were able to apparently give information to police that helped them capture the suspect. the victim's family members got a ransom call demanding money. police found the 14-year-old back at the same shopping center where the kidnapping happened and he was arrested. when he was taken into custody police say he had the victim's property on him, a replica hand gun and

. >> cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is in vallejo now with the investigation this morning. anne, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it is just beginning here at the village bar. this is on tuolumne street in vallejo. you can see inside of the bar not a whole lot of damage to the building. several items are singed. there is some water damage. this is where the investigation is focused this morning. this was though the second fire within about a six-hour period overnight within two blocks. i want to show you some pictures of this fire. a little earlier this broke out at 2:45 at the village bar. and police have called this fire suspicious. they don't know the cause yet. well, two blocks away, there was a house fire at 8:00 last night. that was on alabama street. now, no one was home at the time. so nobody was injured. and firefighters were able to get that out once neighbors alerted them to that fire. but that fire is also suspicious. firefighters don't know the cause of either of these fires. but again, investigations are under way right now at both of those scenes. live in vallejo, anne

. >>> the city of vallejo is dealing with the shocking kidnapping and assault on a 65- year-old woman by a 14-year-old boy. new at noon police just finished a news briefing, alex savidge joins us live with more on the investigation and the people who helped the victim. good afternoon, alex. >> reporter: good afternoon, at that briefing that wrapped up here a lieutenant said this woman is lucky she survived. witnesses found her beaten in a ditch along the side of the freeway. bound with duct tape. police used those witness accounts and also information from the victim herself to track down and arrest a 14-year- old boy in connection withis vicious attack. investigators say the 65-year- old woman was kidnapped at gun point late yesterday from this shopping center on the 100 block of plaza drive. vallejo police say the gunman forced her to drive her minivan several miles away to an area near hidden brook parkway. that is where investigators believe this 14-year-old attacker sexually assaulted the woman and beat her unconscious, the teen drove off in the woman's minivan. thankfully

is under investigation right now. >> cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is in vallejo with the information she just got from police. >> reporter: they just handed me this press relief after we had been bugging them for more information on this crime that happened last night. this is hot off the press. right now, a 65-year-old woman was kidnapped at gunpoint at a shopping center last night at around 6:00. and that was on plaza drive in vallejo. the assailant was a 14-year-old according to police. police say he took her at gunpoint, got her into her minivan and forced her to drive for a couple of miles. and that is when they say he egregiously physically and sexually assaulted her, left her unconscious, duck taped in a ditch. in the meantime police say he placed a phone call to one of her family members asking for ransom. as that phone call was going on, passersby found the 65-year- old woman in the ditch, got her free and to t hospital. she is in the hospital expected to live. the 14-year-old was caught with some of her property he had stolen and with a replica handgun. he is now in juvenil

and temperatures are already cooling. that-estate. vallejo, santa rosa, and teetering on 40's and other locations. it is going to be chilly. here is what we can expect for thanksgiving with clear skies. that means chilly conditions and mild and as we look for saturday, the temperatures are going to be warming, steadily. a nice holiday weekend but chilly temperatures in the 40 bay-area wide. 50s and 60s by noon. for the south bay and the inland valleys and more 60s as we go 3:00 p.m. neighborhood by neighborhood, first, the morning lows. i did see some 30's and napa, santa rosa and even low 40's for vallejo, concord in the inland valleys. 50s in san francisco, richmond. for the action, temperatures warming up nicely. 60s, for the afternoon -- and also san jose with a 64 degrees in fremont. temperatures in the mid upper 60s 65 in concord, antioch, livermore, pleasanton, low 60s for the most part for the east bay shores and the coast. 60s and the san francisco, with mid 60s for the north bay. as for the sierras? we did see that storm moved quickly. dry roads, and it will stay dry not
